hey, cool!
i love tv.
i have always loved tv.
i used to do my homework in front of the living room tv, and when i got kicked off of that i went to my room and turned on this old school watchman black and white portable tv, hid it behind my backpack, put my earphones on and did my homework in front of that.
ultimately, often my favorite part of a good tv show was its theme song. there is something beautiful about a theme song. it's so quick, ephemeral if you will, and sets the entire mood for the show. it gets you excited to watch your favorite show, or cues you to change the channel quickly (like when the match lighting when 'are you afraid of the dark')
the theme song is like a trumpeter announcing royalty, except it says 'hey! get ready to sit here for another half an hour to an hour!'
sometimes, i would only watch the theme song for a show, then change the channel. for example, murder she wrote. amazing theme song. i loved it. it was so exciting. i loved watching the opening credits too, because i love typewriters. but, i could never sit still for an hour of an elderly lady solving crime. another one was saved by the bell, man, what an exciting theme song! i'd watch the occasional episode, but i'd rather have heard the theme song for a half hour instead of the show sometimes.
there were theme songs i loved just as much as the shows that followed, though. macgyver, fresh prince of bel air (um yeah, i memorized that rap, did you even have to ask?), the nanny, golden girls, friends....it goes on and on. in fact, i'm having a lot of trouble thinking of a show that i absolutely hated the theme song for....i wanna say growing pains, but actually i just hated the show, i loved the theme song. in any case, the other day, i was (somehow through the magic of link hopping on the internet you know how it is, click, click, click, ack! porn! click, click, click) presented with this video:
yes, clarissa explains it all. it was a good show, not one of my favorites, mostly it made me want a two story house so that my friends could visit via ladder. anyway, i did enjoy the opening credits as i recall, and when i listened to this theme song again i realized just what the lyrics were.
"na na na na na"
"all right, all right"
more nananas (there are so many nananas i'm not going to type them all)
"hey cool"
more nanas
more all right all rights
more hey cool
and finally
"just do it"
.......
yeah, don't believe me? listen to it again.
i can't tell if it's brilliant or sad or just ridiculous. most likely it is a combination of all three with a dash of stupid and a pinch of laughable/endearing. the best part was that when i played it i could sing along. and yeah, hell yeah, if you want to know,
i love it.
i like this song by duffy. i couldn't decide if i liked her or not for several months. in the end, i decided i did like her, but i think this bonus track is my favorite.
it's good, right? just lovely. nothing to do with anything i was babbling about, but whatever. i do what i want.
